Introduction to UBORA and formation of working groups

UBORA (“excellence” in Swahili) is an online platform for supporting the collaborative development of innovative and safe open-source medical devices.

UBORA provides unique features to guide developers through a systematic engineering design process, for achieving concepts of medical devices compliant with international regulations and standards, while fostering collaboration and joint decision making for enhanced creativity, shared information and peer-reviewed designs. UBORA aims at arranging a diverse and truly global community of engineers, healthcare professionals, patients, members of the “maker” movement and citizens, to help them unite efforts and share ideas, skills and resources, towards clinical needs-driven biomedical engineering research, while pursuing equitable access to healthcare technologies.
