Continuous glucose monitoring: past, present and future challenges
Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensors are portable devices widely used in diabetes therapy to monitor the blood glucose concentration almost continuously for several consecutive days. These sensors are provided with features such as visual/acoustic alarms to alert the user when the critical thresholds of hypo/hyperglycemia are reached. In out talk, we will present the main characteristics and functionalities of CGM devices, their evolution over the last 20 years, the main applications in which they are employed, and we will conclude by addressing possible new uses in medicine and sport
